Even when people finish work, they still check their emails

One in five parents are so busy in the office that they struggle to take a holiday with their children, a study has shown
Tough economic times have had an effect on many people, with employees working longer hours than they ever did before.
The amount of work that employees have to deal with is taking an effect on their home lives, with 72 per cent complaining that they are back so late from work in the evening that they can’t spend time with their children.
Parents who do manage to leave the office on time say that their working day doesn’t stop, as they are constantly checking their work e-mails on their phone.
In response to these findings, Thompson have created a family charter, titled Giving Britain a Break, to encourage families to spend some time together.
The Charter is calling on parents and kids to identify the promises that they should make to each other about being a family again. A national vote will then create the top five rules for the official Family Charter. The Charter will be developed with Nicky Cox MBE, editor of award winning children’s newspaper First News.
Nicky Cox, MBE said, ‘Forget “me time” and “you time,” what we need now is “our time,” together as a family. The Thomson Family Charter will help us all ditch the distractions and dedicate more time to our families. We know it’s tough, but let’s find a way of working together as families. It’s not just about parents offering more time, but kids making time too.’
