Broadband speeds drop by an average 35 per cent during peak times, a report has revealed
If you have ever logged onto the internet, even if it was just to check the news, then you will know how frustrating it is when pages take ages to load.
The study, conducted by Uswitch, has found that if you go online between 7pm and 9pm then you are most likely to experience slower broadband. The report suggests that they best time to go online is between 2am and 3am.
The study looked at regional broadband speeds and found that people trying to connect in Worcestershire had the biggest drop. There was a massive 69 per cent drop in speeds between peak and off-peak times.
Ernest Doku, Uswitch’s technology expert, said, ‘It really is surprising just how much broadband speeds fluctuate at different times of the day, with drop-offs of almost 70% in some areas of the UK.’
Internet connection times have come under scrutinisation recently by Ofcom. The independent regulator have found that although almost half of broadband users are now on broadband packages with advertised speeds of above 10Mbps, the average speed is just 6.8Mbps.
As of next year, the Committee of Advertising Practice have ruled that broadband providers will no longer be able to advertise maximum speeds for net packages unless at least 10 per cent of customers receives it.
