Nick Clegg has laughed off ‘silly’ reports that he finishes work early after it was reported that he did not want to receive any government papers after 3pm
The comment has received criticism as most people do not get to finish work until 5pm.
The deputy prime minister has since said that he might have many flaws but ‘not working hard is not one of them.’
He explained that the story evolved about he set a mid-afternoon submission deadline for Whitehall departments so that they could add advice on documents before he left.
When asked in an interview with BBC Breakfast if he was able to finish work at 3pm, Mr Clegg replied, ‘I wish. I wish.’
