Companies accused of not protecting personal data
It is not just offices that put people’s data at risk

Businesses are not doing enough to protect people’s identities, a study has shown

The study, commissioned by Fellowes, found that 96 per cent of people questioned were concerned that companies did not take relevant steps to protect their personal information.

The research also found evidence to support these claims, as 52 per cent of companies admitted that they did not have clear policies in place to protect people’s identities. This has dropped by 4 per cent since 2010.

The study found that it is not just offices that put people’s data at risk. The increase in people working remotely can also increase the chances of identity theft.

Andrea Davis, president of Fellowes Europe, said, ‘With so many people working from home nowadays it is essential to treat documents responsibly wherever you are, for example by shredding those of a sensitive nature. Document safety polices need to extend to all areas of work, wherever that work may take place.’
