Nearly half of adults admit to wanting plastic surgery

The cosmetic surgery industry in the UK have been criticised by an official review body who claim that there are fundamental weaknesses in the way that surgery is carried out
At a time when millions of people admit to wanting plastic surgery to enhance their body, it is critical that the industry meets official standards.
The National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death found that many surgeons were inexperienced for the operations that they were carrying out.
Dr Alex Goodwin, the report’s author, said, ‘Too many cosmetic surgery teams are prepared to ‘have a go’ at procedures that they rarely perform.’
The study found that more than half of operating theatres in the UK were not sufficiently equipped and a fifth had no emergency readmission policy.
The researchers estimated that 100,000 cosmetic surgery treatments are carried out each year in the UK, with the most common being breast enlargement.
Peter Walsh, chief executive of Action Against Medical Accidents, commented that the ‘shabby treatment’ that patients are currently receiving is putting lives at risk.
