Councils will have to encourage people to eat healthier

Councils will be given the responsibility to encourage people to have healthier lifestyles under plans which are expected to be released by ministers
Currently the public’s heath is part of the NHS’s responsibility but now it is expected to come under local government as part of the new health care system shake up.
The move will also include a health inclusion unit that will help to reduce the health inequalities, which have widened over the past few years.
Extra money will be given to poorer areas within the UK so as to help tackle some of the most entrenched problems.
However, details on how the government aims to tackle problems, such as obesity and smoking, will not be revealed until the new year.
The government hopes that the new scheme will improve the health of the nation and reduce health inequalities.
Angela Mawle, from the UK Public Health Association, said, ‘Councils have the potential to make a real difference to the public’s health.’
