Drinking water before a meal can aid weight loss, claims a new study
Researchers in Virginia have found that drinking two glasses of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner can help dieters to drop an extra 5lbs.
The study, carried over a 12 week period, followed 48 adults who were split into two groups.
The first group ate a low calorie diet but did not drink the extra water before meals.
The second group followed the low calorie diet but also drank the two glasses of water before each meal.
The results showed that those who consumed the extra water lost an average 15.5lbs, while the others lost about 11lbs.
Drinking water helps to aid weight loss as it fills up the stomach with zero calories.
Professor Brenda Davy, senior author of the study, said, ‘People should drink more water as it is a simple way to facilitate weight management.’
