Experts are investigating whether fish pedicures could spread infections after health concerns have arisen
Fish pedicures are the latest pampering craze to hit the UK after they were first established in Washington DC.
The treatment involves sticking the feet into tanks of water filled with Garra Rufa fish. The fish then nibble away at the dead skin to leave the feet feeling soft and refreshed.
However, the Health Protection Agency are concerned at whether this method could spread infection from person to person through open wounds.
A spokesperson, from the Health Protection Agency, said, ‘The HPA will examine the most up to date evidence to determine whether there is possible risks associated with Garra Rufa fish pedicures.’
