Facebook pays out for security loopholes
Facebook has over 750m active users

Facebook has forked out £25,000 in the first 21 days of a programme that rewards the discovery of security bugs

With over 750m active users, the popularity of Facebook has meant that it has also been the target of cyber criminals who have attempted to extract users’ personal information.

The programme hopes to make the site safer for users and strengthen the attack against such bugs.

One person has already been awarded $7,000 for finding six serious bugs within the social networking site.

Facebook have said that the minimum reward will be $500 but this could rise to $5,000 for the discovery of a more serious loophole. The maximum bounty has already been paid once.

Other firms, including Google and Mozilla, also run similar schemes.
