Measles is highly contagious

Families who are planning to fly to European destinations during the Easter break have been advised to vaccinate their children against measles before their trip
Several countries, including Turkey, Denmark and France, have reported sharp increases in children who have contracted measles.
As many families are counting down the days before the schools break for the Easter holidays, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged parents to protect their children from the spread of this virus by making sure that they are fully immunised with two doses of MMR.
Measles is a highly contagious virus that causes symptoms such as fever, coughing and spots of the skin.
A spokeswoman for HPA said, ‘The HPA is issuing advice to schools and health professionals on measles and recommends that children are full immunised before travelling to Europe.’
