The allegations have created a debate on the moral state of the fashion industry

The fashion industry has come under fire after the recent racism scandal involving Galliano, a fashion designer for Dior
Allegations surfaced against John Galliano after he was recorded making anti-Semitic jibes in a Parisian bar. There has since been claims that these comments were not a ‘one-off’ from the Gibraltar-born designer.
As a result of his actions, Galliano has been fired from his position with fashion powerhouse Christian Dior, but the allegations have created a debate on the moral state of the fashion industry.
A study, carried out by YouGov, revealed that 45 per cent of Brits feel that the fashion industry has a ‘problem of dysfunctional and immoral behaviour.’
However, 34 per cent agreed that the fashion industry does not have a problem but that, like every industry, fashion has ‘a few troubled figures.’
When specifically questioned about Galliano’s rant, the survey revealed that 52 per cent of Brits thought that this was just a reflection of one designer and ‘not a wider problem of racism within the industry.’
