Young people use sunbeds to quickly get sun kissed skin

Companies who allow under-18s to use their sunbeds risk facing a £20,000 fine under new legislation laws
The Sunbed Act 2010 stops young people from using sunbeds in places such as salons, gyms and hotels.
They hope that this move would help protect young people from developing skin cancer in later life.
A study, carried out by Cancer Research UK, revealed that two people under the age of 35 are diagnosed with malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, every day in the UK.
Sunbeds are popular among young people who want to quickly get sun kissed skin. Figures show that on average 6 per cent of 11-17 year olds in England use them, whilst this rises to 50 per cent of 15-17 year olds in Liverpool and Sunderland.
Andrew Griffiths, of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), said, ‘We are extremely pleased to see the Act coming into force and believe that it will give valuable protection to young people.’
Scotland banned under-18s using sunbeds in 2008, whilst the Northern Ireland Assembly are also looking into forcing the ban.
