Organic food products have seen a rise in sales
|
Global sales of organic food and drink is showing strong signs of recovery from the recession after it was announced that revenues are expected to reach almost £40 billion this year
Organic Monitor stated in their new Global Organic Food & Drink Market report that revenues have expanded over three-fold from £11 billion in 2000, despite sales slowing down in the last few years. Last year showed an increase in global sales by 4.7 per cent.
European markets were the most affected by the economic crisis with many major food retailers stocking less organic produce as sales rapidly declined. In the UK the organic products market contracted last year and the German market stagnated, while some countries, such as Sweden and France, reported a contrast with growths in excess of 15 per cent.
The North American organic market is now the strongest having overtaken the European market this year making it the largest in the world. The U.S. has reported a rise in organic farming most of the organic produce is imported from other regions, such as Latin America who have become a major supplier of organic fruits, vegetables, meats, seeds, nuts, and other ingredients.
