Head teachers are being provided with training for letting staff go after large-scale redundancies have been announced for schools in England
As schools face a squeeze on their budgets many head teachers are struggling to cope with being forced to shed their numbers of staff.
The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) has revealed that a dozen schools a day are calling their helpline to ask for advice on redundancies.
As a result, the ASCL are offering a seminar course, titled Managing Staffing Reductions, to help head teachers cope with the task.
The training has already proved to be popular, a class held in Manchester over the weekend attracted 60 delegates.
Brian Lightman, ASCL general secretary, said, ‘It’s an unprecedented time for them [head teachers] and we’ve seen a massive demand for advice on how to deal with it.’
