A glamorous hotel in Abu Dhabi is expecting to break a world record by having the world’s most expensive Christmas tree, worth over £7m
The Emirates Palace hotel, renowned for its publicity seeking antics, puts many people’s decorating efforts to shame by draping their 13-metre tree with scores of precious stones.
Hans Olbertz, general manager of the hotel, said, ‘This is another unique event for us and it will ensure that our guests and visitors are able to be part of history in the making.’
Using traditional baubles, the tree is decorated with 181 diamonds, pearls, emeralds, sapphires and other precious stones to ensure that it stands out.
When questioned about the security measures that were in place to protect the tree, Mr Harfoush, marketing director of the hotel, said, ‘We have 24/7 security and cameras to monitor the space.’
The hotel is not new to being in the public eye as it was also noted for the $1m package deal that it offered to couples celebrating Valentine’s Day earlier this year.
The vast majority of Abu Dabi’s population are Muslim but Hans Olbertz did not think that the tree, celebrating a Christian day, would offend people.
