The average family are set to spend around £300 on tax this Christmas, according to a recent study
As a result of VAT paid on presents and other goods, and tax on alcohol and petrol, families are looking at a festive tax bill totalling £283, suggests the TaxPayers’ Alliance. With VAT increasing next year from 17.5% to 20%, the Christmas tax bill for 2011 is set to be even higher at £8 billion.
Accountant’s Deloitte have estimated the figures, stating that the average expenditure on Christmas per family home is £1,460; £365 is spent on food and drink, £803 goes towards presents, and £292 is spent on socialising. The average VAT paid out per household is £224.
A collective total of £1.35 billion will be spent by homes on tax alone on alcohol and £163 million on petrol.
