The high-speed rail link will cut journey times around the UK

The proposed HS2 link should be a spending priority for the government and not a new airport, a poll finds
The high-speed rail link will cut journey times around the UK, with travel times from London to Birmingham being cut from an hour and a quarter to just under an hour. The HS2 link will also cut the journey time from London to Edinburgh by an hour.
Trips to and from Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire will also be reduced if the plans for the HS2 go ahead.
The poll, carried out by YouGov, found that 43 per cent of Brits agree that the greatest spending on transport should be on building the HS2. Just 16 per cent thought that a new airport should be built.
However not everyone agrees. The poll also found that 29 per cent thought that neither the HS2 or the new airport should be given precedence as they are both a waste of money.
The new rail link is expected to be built in 2026.
