The key trend for the winter kitchen will be the return of darker grained woods such as calvados or rich walnut, according to Paula Morris at kitchen supplier Sigma 3 (http://www.sigma3.co.uk). ‘Other trends to look for are curves, which make a lot of sense in today’s modern practical kitchen and are ideal for young children, and the return of integrated handles and smart space solutions,’ says Morris.
‘Also look out for changes in lighting, essential for both mood and looks – a humble fluorescent bar or lonesome bulb will no longer cut it.’ Morris’ hot tip for the big trend in appliances is the steam oven, hailed as a healthier way of cooking because it retains vitamins and reduces fat content.
