Elderly people are at the highest risk for suffering from loneliness

Loneliness is a ‘hidden killer’ of elderly people, a campaign group has revealed
Coinciding with the launch of the group’s campaign, End Loneliness, they have found that older people are more at risk of depression, lack of exercise and bad diet.
They revealed the shocking statistics that show almost one in 10 elderly people suffer from ‘intense’ loneliness.
The campaign is fighting to get loneliness recognised as a public health issue as it claims that few people are aware of its effects.
While people are aware of the emotional problems of loneliness, few recognise the physical damage.
Elderly people are at the highest risk for suffering from loneliness as they often have mobility problems that stop them from going out and a large percentage are also living alone.
