We are a nation of tea lovers – in the UK we get through 165 million cups of tea a day. Make yours taste how it should with tips from a tea master
Chairman of the UK Tea Council, William Gorman, gives his top five tips for making the perfect brew.
1. Always use freshly drawn water – reboiling takes the oxygen out and to energise the tea leaf it needs to be fresh. Only boil the amount you need.
2. If you’re making tea in a mug always put the milk in after you’ve taken the tea bag out.
3. With loose leaf tea it doesn’t matter if you put the milk in before or after.
4. Loose leaf tea is best made in a tea pot, always warm the pot first otherwise the boiling water in the tea pot will be doing two jobs – warming the pot and brewing the leaves.
5. Leave to stand for a few minutes, then pour.
