As everyone begins to get into the festive mood it appears then men are failing to get into the Christmas spirit
According to a study, conducted by Visit Birmingham, men are saying ‘ho ho no’ when it comes to Christmas.
The research found that 31 per cent of men can’t stand listening to festive jingles, compared to over half of women who claim that Christmas music get them into the festive music.
Christmas decorations are also unpopular, with 35 per cent of men refusing to put up a Christmas tree. On the complete opposite side on the spectrum, women are keen to spread the festive cheer, with 62 per cent showering the house with Christmas decorations as soon as the calendar hits December 1.
Dr Baljit Kaur Rana, senior lecturer in Organisational Psychology at Birmingham City University, said, ‘These findings clearly highlight the traditional gender divide that exists between men and women in British society – where masculinity reflects materialistic, egocentric values, feminism focuses on communal values of nurturing, generosity and charity. In this way, Christmas is widely construed as ‘women’s work’, and females have been socialised to worry about the needs of others, bringing family members together at this time of year.’
