More people worried about burglary, yet most don't protect their homes
|
Recent research shows 1 in 7 UK homeowners are more concerned about burglary than ever since the credit crunch
Despite the worry over burglaries increasing, 20 per cent don’t bother to keep their valuables out of sight of windows and a sixth of people admitted to having no home contents insurance.
It seems their fears are not unfounded, as nearly a quarter of those polled had been a victim of burglary at some point in their lives and official Home Office figures show an increase of 4 per cent in domestic burglary.
Information from Halifax Home Insurance showed that 29 per cent of their claims in 2007 were for unforced burglaries, many of which would have been through unlocked windows and doors. Unsurprising, given that 22% of those polled admitted to leaving doors and windows unlocked when they’re at home.
What can you do to make your home more secure against burglaries?
• Keep valuables out of sight of the windows
• Install a prominent burglar alarm and always set it at night and when the property is empty
• Fit key locks to windows, especially those on the ground floor
• Don’t leave a spare key hidden outside as most burglars will know where to look

I have wiring for all sensors around my two story house. So I just want the main unit, key pad and sensors. I don’t want to use service providers like ADT Los Angeles locksmith
