Nutritional information to be displayed on fast food
Nutrition information will be displayed to show customers how much fat is in packaged food
Some of the high street’s biggest food chains, including Pizza Hut, Pret A Manger and Subway, will soon display nutritional information in store.
Hundreds of companies have signed up to the government-backed scheme aiming to educate people about “hidden” fat and calories. They will display the information on menus, boards, or shelves and will reveal the number of calories per portion.
Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s cafés have also joined the drive. Minister for Public Health Dawn Primarolo says, ‘We know people want to be able to see how many calories are in the food and drink they order when they eat out. I want to see more catering companies join this ground-breaking first group to help their customers make healthier choices.’
