Many office workers spend hours staring at a computer screen

Portable pedal machines could be given to staff to use whilst at their desk so as to improve the health of workers
Hours spent staring at a computer screen and only getting up to make the odd cup of tea or pop to the toilet is undoubtedly going to have a negative effect on our health.
Now researchers, writing in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, have suggested that portable pedal machines could be a cheap solution to improving the health of employees.
In a survey, carried out by the researchers, the results supported the idea and workers agreed that they would use the machines regularly if they were installed in their office.
Dr Ian Campbell, of Weight Concern, said, ‘In principle this is a good idea, and relatively inexpensive. If used regularly not only would individuals benefit, but employers would see reduced absenteeism and improved performance and job satisfaction.’
Previous attempts at increasing the health of workers have included hooking a treadmill up to an office computer.
