French cuisine needs a new culinary favourite following a snail shortage.

Two thirds of the delicacy are supplied to France from Eastern Europe, but since joining the EU, better paid jobs mean people are reluctant to get up at dawn to search the Polish forests for the burgundy snail.

As a result, the price of snails is set to rocket later this year.
