Parents need to esure that their child has a healthy diet
|
The British public have stated that the responsibility of encouraging healthy eating should lie with parents and schools, not the government
The results, from YouGov Plc, come as health Minister Andrew Lansley launched a healthy life style campaign earlier this month.
The survey found that 40% of participants believed that it was the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children are eating a balanced diet.
Many of the respondents also thought that it was up to schools to also play a big part in teaching children about maintaining a healthy diet.
Lansley and other government figures have proposed that food and alcohol companies should help to fund their Change4Life campaign. In return they will cancel their plans to introduce a ban on unhealthy foods that contain excessive levels of fat, sugar or salt.
However the public have responded with mixed views as 44% of survey participants opposed to the scheme.
On the other hand, the majority did agree that food manufacturers should be made to reduce the fat or salt content in their products by government regulation.
