Children are being looked after by their grandparents

Many working parents of young children are depending on their own parents to help out with childcare, reveals a new study
The research, carried out by Workingmums.co.uk, found that grandparents are playing a vital role in enabling parents to return to work after the birth of their child.
Many parents blame the high childcare costs for calling on the assistance of their own parents.
Sam Smethers, Chief Executive of Grandparents Plus, said, ‘Families are under increasing financial pressure and grandparents are helping to bridge the childcare gap.’
The study found that some mums and dads, who were not so lucky to have their parents on hand to help, were forced to pay costs of up to £750 per month for alternative childcare methods.
Gillian Nissim, founder of Workingmums.co.uk, said, ‘This survey has shown just how important grandparents are in helping parents get back into the workplace.’
