People prefer to keep warm than go ‘green’
There are other ways to keep warm than just putting on the heating

In the colder months we would rather turn the heating up than find ‘greener’ ways to keep warm, reveals a new survey

The study, carried out by LG Electronics, found that when it comes to heating up our homes, we still tend to put our own comfort above the welfare of the planet.

The results found that even though 65 per cent of those polled were concerned about the rising costs of energy bills, only 13 per cent were troubled by the environmental impact of keeping the heating on for long periods of time.

However, encouraging results came when 76 per cent agreed that they would be interested in an economic system that both heats and cools the home.

Sean Kim, Business Unit Marketing Manager for the LG air conditioning division, said, ‘Coming at a time when most of us are turning on our central heating again and thinking about how to keep our homes warm this coming winter, the survey suggests that with rising energy bills, consumers are now becoming more aware of new heating and cooling solutions which are cheaper to run and more energy efficient.’

Here are some more ways that you can keep warm the ‘greener’ way and also cut your heating bills:

1. Put another layer on – You can’t complain that you’re cold if you only have a t-shirt on.
2. Heat up a hot water bottle
3. Make sure that you cover gaps, especially those under the door, where heat can escape.
4. Closing the curtains can help to stop heat escaping.
5. Although it can be an expensive option, investing in double glazing can help to keep the home warmer.
