People who eat more chocolate are ‘more depressive’
Chocolate could be a cause of depression

Experts have found people who eat chocolate more often are more depressive

Research shows those who eat at least at a bar every week are more glum than those who eat chocolate less regularly.

The research in published in Archives of Internal Medecine studied 1000 adults and questioned how much they ate chocolate and the affect on their mood. Those who ate the most – more than six regular 28g size bars a month, scored the highest on depression.

Most people believe chocolate improves people’s mood, and the US team admit this could be true, however there is little scientific evidence to back this up. They said chocolate may be a cause rather than a cure for being depressed.

The researchers from the University of California said that people who are depressed may crave chocolate as a “self-treatment” to life mood.
Dr Natalie Rose who led the research, and her colleagues said, ‘Alternatively, analogous with alcohol, there could be short-term benefits of chocolate to mood with longer-term untoward effects’.

They added that chocolate could even be a direct cause of depression.
