The UK plus-sized market is now worth £3.8bn

The women’s plus-size clothing market has reported a 45 per cent growth over the past five years
These results are not surprising as research from Mintel, a leading market research company, has revealed that almost a quarter of women in the UK wear sizes 18 and over.
Clothes shops have already caught onto this as many have already launched plus-sized clothing sections and others have it in their future plans.
Mintel has estimated that the plus-sized market has increased to £3.8bn in 2010, while the overall womenswear market lags behind with just a 15 per cent growth.
Tamara Sender, a senior fashion analyst at Mintel, said, ‘Rising levels of obesity in the UK mean that plus-size consumers are increasing.’
However, Mintel have reported that size 12 is the most common in the UK, closely followed by size 14.
