Users will be able to find which crimes have taken place on or near their street

Online crime maps have been launched that allow users to view the offences that have been reported in their local streets
The maps enable the public to search for information on crime and anti-social behaviour by entering a street name or postcode.
Theresa May, Home Secretary, said that she hopes the maps will give real facts and make the police more accountable.
However, she denied that the information could increase fear levels and drive down house prices.
The government has said that the website is part of its ‘transparency agenda’ and that the site will help communities to engage with the police in a meaningful way.
The website breaks crimes down into six categories, which include burglary, robbery, vehicle crime and violence. Visitors will be able to find which crimes have taken place on or near their street within the past month and which officers are responsible of their area.
