Those who have a gluten allergy can now indulge in some delicious recipes that are quick and easy to make, and do not compromise on flavour
Having an allergy can really make your life a misery, especially when it is towards food.
Statistics have revealed that one in 20 people are diagnosed as gluten intolerant, but some experts feel that the figure is closer to one in 10 people. The intolerance is also known as Coeliac Disease.
As a protein that is found in grains, including wheat, rye and oats, it can be very difficult for a person who has a gluten intolerance to find a meal that does not include these ingredients.
Kim McCosker and Rachael Bermingham have brought out a new book, 4 Ingredients Gluten Free, which includes a variety of delicious recipes that are specially created for those who have a gluten intolerance.
From breakfast to morning tea, lunch, starters, dinners and deserts, this book will definitely make meal times much more exciting.
The book also includes a recipe for a scrumptious flourless chocolate cake:
Ingredients
4 free range eggs
1 cup caster sugar
200g butter
250g dark chocolate
Method
Preheat oven 180C. Separate the eggs, add half the sugar to the yolks and beat really well with a mixer. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff then add remaining sugar, gradually beating until stiff peaks form. Melt butter and chocolate over hot water stirring regularly. Pour into egg yolk mixture and fold, then fold in egg whites. Line a cake tin with greaseproof paper and pour in mixture. Bake for 40 minutes in the lower third of your oven. NB: This cake will collapse, as it has no flour to sustain the rise.
The flourless chocolate cake can be served warm or cold and is delicious with fresh whipped cream.
