More older people are becoming apprentices
|
The number of people aged over 50 who have taken up apprenticeships has nearly doubled in two years
Research has found that more than 5,000 people over the age of 50 have gone into apprenticeships, compared with just 2,600 before.
Age UK and The Age Employment Network have said that a rapid expansion in places in 2007 joint with the recession could be the reason for such a steep increase.
These new results are positive in showing that so many 50-plus people are willing to learn new skills and are confident enough to take a new career direction.
Michelle Mitchell, Director of Age UK, said, ‘This is a refreshing sight that sends a clear message that age is no barrier to what people can achieve.’
