A programme is being put together that hopes to encourage and stimulate young people to become entrepreneurs
The pilot scheme, jointly created by YouGov, UCL, StartUp Britain and Imperial College London hopes to offer students the opportunity to develop their own innovative business ideas and to create start-up business plans.
Titled StartUp Summer, these scheme is currently only open to students at University College London and Imperial University, but if successful it could be open to students nationwide.
During the eight week project, students will be given a budget of £2,000 to help their business idea come to life. Throughout the weeks they will have regular contact with their mentors and also be given the opportunity to attend masterclass workshops that are offered by experience entrepreneurs.
At the end of the project the students will have to present their idea in a Dragon’s Den style environment to real investors who will then be able to provide constructive feedback and guidance to each student.
The project which is judged the best will receive a prize of £15,000 for the development of their start-up business.
Stephen Shakespeare, co-founder and CEO of YouGov, said, ‘I have seen how few opportunities exist for creative self-starters who do not fall into the traditional categories set by your average internship scheme. Within this safe and stimulating environment, students can carve their own path into business.’
