Get into the habit of smiling

Getting into the habit of smiling and being kind to others on a regular basis can raise happiness levels, reveals a new study
At a time when unemployment and the threat of further job and pay cuts are at an all time high, statistics have shown that anti-depressant prescriptions rose to an incredible 23m in 2010.
Wellbeing expert, Lucy McCarraher, and social psychologist, Annabel Shaw carried out the Happiness Habits Experiment as part of the research for their new self-help book, The Real Secret.
During the experiment they asked people to undertake between one and six simple activities daily for three weeks. The results found that activities, such as smiling and being kind to others, really helped to improve the participants’ happiness levels.
McCarraher and Shaw are now working to try and get the Happiness Habits programme to become part of a schools standard lesson programme.
