The government hope this will stop people binge drinking

Opinion is split on whether the Government should introduce a minimum price on alcohol
The survey, carried out by YouGov, found that 47 per cent support the idea of enforcing a minimum price for alcohol but a similar percentage, 44 per cent, are also against the idea.
The public also failed to find a majority vote when they were asked about the ‘right’ price for drinks.
38 per cent suggested that the lowest price for a can of beer, about 38p, was about right.
However, 33 per cent fought back to say that this price was too low.
The government have said that they want to introduce minimum alcohol prices so as to stop shops and bars selling alcohol, for what has been termed, ‘pocket money prices.’
They hope that the move will stop people from binge drinking and encourage people to think twice before they consume large amounts of alcohol.
Whilst speaking to the BBC, Professor Gilmore, from the Royal College of Physicians, criticised the move and said, ‘It will have no impact whatsoever on the vast majority of cheap drinks sold in supermarkets.’
