Statistics estimate that one home is broken in to every minute

The British Crime Survey (BCS) has reported a rise in household burglaries in England and Wales
Instances of burglary and sexual offences were the only individual crime rates to have risen since last year.
More than 710,000 burglaries have been reported in the last twelve months – a 9 per cent increase on numbers last year.
Similarly, shed and bicycle thefts have also risen – by 16 and 3 per cent respectively. This equates to more than one home reporting a burglary every minute.
Last year police warned of a potential rise in crime due to the economic down turn and unprecedented levels of unemployment. However the BCS has confirmed that there has been a consistent fall in general crime each year since 1995.
Despite the general fall in crime, Theresa May, Home Secretary, added, ‘Crime levels are still too high and we know these statistics only offer a partial picture about the level of crime’.
