Sleep Scotland will educate teenagers about the importance of sleep

Teenagers across Scotland are to receive training on how to get a good night’s sleep
Sleep is very beneficial to a person’s emotional and physical wellbeing. Not getting enough sleep has been linked to obesity and risk of depression.
Stereotypically teenagers are known for sleeping for long periods of time but Sleep Scotland, the charity who are providing the training, have said that watching television and using computers and mobile phones at night time is preventing teenagers from getting the nine hours that they require to function properly.
Research carried out by Sleep Scotland has shown that the sleep time for teenagers has steadily decreased over the past 10 to 20 years.
The charity hopes that the teaching that they will provide will educate young people about the importance of getting a full night’s sleep.
Jane Ansell, director of Sleep Scotland, said, ‘I don’t think any parent would think of sending their child out without enough food, or decent clothing, so why should you send your child out without enough sleep?’
