Make your office party go with a bang
|
As the season of celebration approaches, managers are under pressure to provide a successful end of year party
A survey, carried out by out-law.com found that 80 per cent of British bosses avoid the stress altogether and refuse to organise a Christmas party.
However, Emyr Thomas, founder of Bon Vivant, knows that parties do not always have to cause such a trauma.
‘The office party is part of your job. Its purpose is to bring colleagues together for a bit of camaraderie and some well-deserved recognition.’
After all the hard work that your employees have put in throughout the year, they deserve some time to just let their hair down and relax with other colleagues.
‘Office parties are meant to be fun, so you need to loosen up and make employees think of you as someone like them who they can enjoy a night out with.’
However, as a manager it is also important to remember that you are still the boss so it is up to you to maintain the boundaries.
Emyr advises, ‘It’s a delicate relationship to balance, but all good managers should already know how not to tread the line between being a boss and a friend.’
The most important factor of the office party is for it to be fun and to aid teamwork within the company so it is worth pulling out the stocks and putting the effort it to make the party go with a bang.
‘You want the party to be one that employees will talk about for the following weeks and something that makes them proud to be part of your company,’ explaines Emyr.
These are Emyr Thomas’s top tips for a successful office party:
1. Make sure your relax – it sounds simple but if you are relaxed you’ll be able to enjoy yourself
2. If you are looking for someone to speak to, approaching people on their own is normally easier than speaking to people in a group
3. An office party doesn’t have to be expensive but it does need to be given due time and consideration so that it is the best it possibly can be
4. If the conversations run dry, don’t be afraid to talk about the weather – it’s a national obsession after all!
