The threat of hacking could be slightly closer to home

One in five British people have sneaked into their partner’s email or social networking account without their partner’s knowledge
Internet security has been in the spotlight recently with so-called ‘hacktivist’ groups, such as Anonymous and Lulz Security, who have targeted high-profile victims.
Results from a study, carried out by YouGov, found that the threat of hacking could be slightly closer to home for some people.
YouGov’s results showed that 18-24 year olds are by far the age group most likely to log into a partner’s account without their knowledge, with 38 per cent admitting they had. This compared to 29 per cent of 25 to 39 year olds and just 10 per cent of those over 60.
Women were also found to be more likely to seek unauthorized access, with 18 per cent saying that they had sneaked onto their partner’s account. 18 per cent of men admitted to doing this.
However, the study also found that 58 per cent of people had actually given the their account password to their partner.
