Expensive tickets, overpriced food and hours spent queuing for rides, parents are complaining that theme parks are a waste of money
From Alton Towers to Thorpe Park, for many children, the summer holidays wouldn’t be complete without a trip to their favourite theme park. However, with the price of family tickets reaching a whopping £105.60 per day, more than half of adults understandably feel that theme parks have become too expensive.
The research, carried out by gocompare.com, found that just 4.6 per cent agree that theme parks offer good value for money.
As well as the pricy entrance fee, parents are left feeling stung by the high cost of food and drink once inside the park. The long queues also leave parents feeling glum.
Jeremy Cryer, Gocompare.com’s head of travel, commented, ‘Our research shows that most visitors to theme parks come away with a less than glowing view of their day out. Expensive tickets, overpriced food, and hours spent queuing for rides seem to be how most Brits remember their day out.’
One person who took part in the poll said, ‘We are a family who love theme parks but they are expensive and with the hike in the cost of petrol for the journey they are becoming an increasingly expensive treat.’
Despite the high cost, Brits still love going to theme parks during the summer. These are the top ten and the admission prices for a family of four:
1. Alton Towers costs £100.80 per day
2. Disney World Florida costs £823 for four days
3. Thorpe Park costs £105.60 per day
4. Universal Studios Florida costs £361 for four days
5. Disney Land Paris costs £194 per day
6. Chessington costs £88.20 per day
7. Blackpool Pleasure Beach costs £88 per day
8. Drayton Manor costs £83.80 per day
9. Legoland costs £97 per day
10. Flamingo Land costs £95 per day
