Many people say that trainers are too expensive

A record number of Brits are suffering from injuries related to the misuse and overuse of their trainers, according to research carried out by JJB Sports
When worn correctly, the trainer provides the perfect support for the foot but when they ware out, they have the ability to cause more injuries than killer heels.
As a result, podiatrists have reported that they are now seeing as many as one in 10 visits from patients who are complaining of foot pain because of their trainers.
These results are not surprising as JJB Sports also found that over three-quarters of those questioned admitted that they only replaced their trainers once they had completely worn down.
Myles Allfrey, podiatrist and member of the National Association of Podiatrists and Chiropodists, said, ‘I am seeing increasing numbers of patients with complaints as a result of wearing trainers day in day out. In many respects, trainers are fantastic for the feet – when worn in the right way and for the right activity, they can provide tremendous support and cushioning for our feet. However, if sports shoes are overworn, they can become very flat, causing strain on the foot arches and muscles.’
Many people say that trainers are too expensive to replace time and time again, especially in today’s economic climate.
Keith Jones, CEO of JJB Sports, said, ‘That’s why JJB Sports is happy to help out – our brand new recycling scheme offers customers £5 off their next pair of sports shoes bought in store after they bring in an old pair for recycling. Not only does it help out with costs, but it will also go towards helping to protect the nation’s health in the long term.’
