It is possible for city dwellers to grow their own fruit and veg
|
New research carried out by PlantforLife has revealed that in the last two years nearly half of all urbanites have longed for a quieter pace of life rather than the hectic daily routine they’ve grown accustomed to
Over 40 per cent of urbanites have claimed that they would like to move away from the city life as it is too stressful. Almost half (47 per cent) wished they could have slower lifestyles, 41 per cent of people said they would love opportunity to grow their own produce and 56 per cent confessed to wanting healthier lives.
Of those who wish for change their reasons for wanting to escape their current situations included wanting to lead a more fulfilling (39 per cent), sustainable (29 per cent), and greener (29 per cent) life in the countryside.
Matthew Wilson, Channel 4’s ‘Landscape Man’ and garden designer, has suggested tips for urbanites seeking moves: ‘The city has its challenges when we talk about simple, sustainable living but there are small steps that everyone can take to make a difference.
‘Gardening is an easy first step to help to introduce positive effects to the environment and can even help you save a few pennies along the way. Incorporating hanging baskets to grow you own fruit and veg or building a mini greenhouse for the smallest of windowsills, are just a couple of easy ways towards sustainable living without packing your bags and moving to the country.’
