As many mums breathe a sigh of relief when their children go back to school, mums with pre-school children struggle with childcare options due to cost
A study, carried out by Cartoonito, found that 1 in 5 mums with toddlers are so tired from the pressures of parenting that it puts a strain of their mother and child relationship.
Psychologist Dr Pat Spungin, said, ‘Motherhood is a full time job. Past generations would have had extended family to call on to share the load, but these days many mums live miles apart from their extended families and so they have to rely on professionals if they want a break.’
However, the study found that even though 76 per cent of mums wish that they could have an hour or two child-free time a week, 52 per cent of mums feel that getting support is not an option due as they can’t afford it.
