Women wear only 10 per cent of their wardrobe
Stylish pieces like these from Dorothy Perkins will ensure you get maximum wear out of your wardrobe

A new survey shows women wear just a tenth of their clothes

A recent survey by online fashion website, MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, found that a quarter of women wear just 10 per cent of their wardrobe. It also found that 91 per cent of these women have an item of clothing that still has the price tag on.

Most women, it seems, either shop compulsively, or buy clothes which they then realise they don’t like or don’t suit them. Andy Barr, Marketing Director of MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, says, “It’s really surprising that so many women wear so little of the clothes they actually own”.

However, perhaps it is not so surprising given the amount of credit readily available to any keen shopper; store cards are everywhere, encouraging us to spend lots of money that we don’t have, and buy things that we can’t afford. Barr continued, “I think this new study proves that although plenty of women have shopped all of their lives, they still feel they have nothing to wear”.

This problem has recently been addressed by celebrity fashionista’s such as Gok Wan, whose idea of the ‘capsule wardrobe’ has sparked interest among female shoppers. 67 per cent interviewed said they quite fancied the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but Barr still has doubts, “The idea of a capsule wardrobe is becoming a more popular concept, but I think it will be a long time before the majority of females narrow their wardrobe down to just 20 staple items.”

The capsule wardrobe will hopefully become more and more popular in the future, especially with its promotion by celebrities, but perhaps women should get rid of their unworn or unwanted items of clothing before they buy more.
