Young coffee drinkers prefer the ‘real thing’
Many people drink coffee for extra energy

Coffee is a popular choice for a quick caffeine fix but research has shown that young people are leaving a cup of instant coffee and choosing real coffee alternatives instead.

The research, carried out by YouGov SixthSense, found that 67 per cent of 18-24 year olds would rather have a cappuccino, a latte or an americano, compared to 83 per cent of over 55 year olds who would prefer to have a cup of instant coffee.

It is thought that high street chains, such as Starbucks and Costa, have influenced young people’s preference.

James McCoy, Research Director for YouGiv Sixth Sense, said, ‘What we are seeing here are two very different coffee drinking cultures informed by two different consumer experiences.’
