One Moisturiser May Not Fit All for Young Looking Skin

Fundamental to keeping our skin in shape is moisturising; however, with the range of skin care products on the market and differences in skin types, it can be difficult to know what moisturiser will work best for you.

Moisturisers play a large part in keeping your skin looking young. It is as important as cleansing, and choosing the correct moisturiser can make a significant difference. The primary function of moisturiser is to form a barrier on the surface of the skin to prevent moisture from being lost. This allows  the skin to look, feel and stay soft and smooth. Some moisturisers contain ingredients designed to minimise the appearance of fine lines, protect the skin from environmental hazards, such as pollution, and/or exfoliate the dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin.

The science of skincare has been revolutionised during the past decade or so. Not long ago many people believed that soap and water was good enough for just about everybody, whatever the skin type.

The key to a healthy complexion is to find a skincare routine that suits your individual skin type. This may require some experimentation. Even when you have found a good product range you may need to make adjustments according to the time of year, your age and your overall health. So when it comes to skin care, be flexible – your skin will look better for it.

There are five basic skin types; normal oily, dry, combination and sensitive. Recognising which category your skin falls into can help you determine the skin care routine you should follow to ensure that your skin looks and feels it’s best. Your skin type owes much to your genes, your hormone levels and your lifestyle. But because the skin is a living organ it’s needs can change from season to season and year to year. The skin type you had when you were young may not be the same as the one you have now, so review the condition of your skin at intervals and make any necessary changes to skin care routine.

The human skin ranges from oily, normal, dry to combination and sensitive. However, it is not uncommon for a single person to have a combination of these types on various parts of the face and body.

Finding The Correct Moisturiser For Your Skin Type

It is worth spending a little more on skin care products that are natural and boast better results. Many natural skin care products work better than their conventional counterparts and without the associated risks and side-effects. So look into the latest advancements in skin care – naturally active marine and plant based skin care.

Over time, Normal to Dry skin types suffer from lack of collagen and elastin. Using a fomula with  an exclusive complex of marine actives, botanical actives and essential oils will help inhibit an enzymatic reaction, which breaks down hyaluronic acid and reduces the formation of lines and wrinkles. The result is improved skin hydration for supple, plump more beautiful youthful looking skin.

Dry to Very Dry skin suffers from lack of collagen and elastin in the skin that can lead to significant ageing of the skin. This skin type would greatly benefit from applying a super-nourishing rich cream, containing an exclusive complex of marine actives, botanical actives and essential oils. Nourishing, restoring and reviving properties help provide continuous hydration and moisturisation to leave skin feeling nourished, smooth and supple. Moisturising serums that incorporate rosehip seed oil soothe, and calm the skin, while aiding with the  skin’s natural regeneration process.

Oily to Combination and Sensitive skin types should use an oil-free moisturiser, that contains a lightweight fluid to provide oil control leaves the pores more refined and restores balance to the skin without compromising the skins natural pH levels. Lightweight moisturisers are equally effective for those who suffer from oily acne prone skin, through maintaining the skin’s moisture, yet remaining free from excess oils. Sensitive skin types will benefit from a non-perfumed products, as people with sensitive skin may also suffer from redness or rosacea and when coupled with harsh or extreme weather conditions, this can lead to thread veins. Look for micro algae, which is excellent for calming capillaries and reducing redness in the skin.

Don’t forget the eyes. The skin around the eyes is fragile with few sebaceous glands. And because it is not very elastic, it is usually where the first signs of ageing such as fine lines and crow’s feet appear.  Products for the eye area usually come in cream or gel form which make them easy to apply. For an instantly more youthful look, head to lightweight serums that nourish the delicate eye area, plump out fine lines and cut down redness, puffiness and dark circles.
