Hair How To’s…

Ken Picton, the current British Colour Technician of the Year, shares his expert tips:

When growing hair out a colour change is the factor that gives you a different look as you go and makes it far less painful! Anne’s becoming one to watch with her change of appearance, I love that she’s not scared to try something different. This lovely honey, butterscotch toned blonde really suits her. This striking make-up really finishes it perfectly and gives her look more versatility – less soft beauty heroine, more edgy young thing.

To go from brunette to blonde, seek professional advice, don’t be over courageous trying to get to your desired shade as keeping the condition is most important and will keep tone in the hair. It might take more than one application if you already have colour in your hair. Remember when going from brunette it’s not about white, white, white; leave buttery soft golden tones in the hair as most brunettes are generally warm skin toned – too pale can wash you out. Highlights through the front can give you a lift without going too pale.

Organic Colour Specialist Karine Jackson, christened ‘the queen of blonde’ by a host of journalists for her faultless colour transformations, gives her tips to get Anne’s look:

I think she looks fantastic with blonde hair. The best time to go blonde is when your hair is this short. You will get a crisp colour that looks so striking. Anne has kept some warmth in her hair, which suits her skin tone. It’s taken a simple crop and made it look stunning and powerful, a real shake up for her image.

For hair this blonde it’s important to use the correct products especially if you want to keep the yellow tones at bay. To get rid of brassiness I recommend using Status Quo Silver Shampoo from Organic Colour Systems once a week. If your stylist lifts your colour enough the need for a toner is minimised dramatically. Cleanse the hair prior to colouring with a cleansing shampoo to remove any impurities.
