Disorganised friends and fussy eaters most likely to annoy Brits on holiday

Disorganised and unprepared travel companions are the most likely to rile Brits on holiday, research from leading car hire comparison Carhiremarket.com has revealed. Holidaying with friends and family who turn their noses up at local cuisine will also get British blood boiling.

The survey of 2,000 British adults uncovers the top five travel companion annoyances when on holiday:

1) Disorganised travelers, who turn up at the airport late or forget to pack the right items

2) Fussy foodies who refuse to try the local cuisine

3) Activity control freaks who force you to follow their holiday agenda

4) Loud music that can be heard through headphones

5) Money scroungers who haven’t brought enough cash after splashing out in duty-free

Other annoyances include having to put up with poor music in the car, friends that hog the shade all day and sun cream “stingers” who don’t share their factor 15.

Brits aren’t afraid to confront these annoyances however, as over a quarter will readily shirk the stereotypical British stiff upper lip image and tell their companions to change their ways. Men have little trouble telling their travel companions straight to their face how annoying they find them, but it seems the older you get the more reserved you become, with those aged 45-54 years more likely to gossip behind someone’s back and those over 65 least likely to say anything at all about their grumbles.

Andrew Shorrock, Product Manager of Carhiremarket.com, said: “Holidays are meant to be relaxing times spent with friends and families but it doesn’t always work out that way. When travelling in close proximity to others either on long car journeys of for significant periods of time, there’s always going to be a moment where even the closest friends or family irritate us on holiday. But Brits need to be careful as it seems many of us aren’t afraid to speak out about their frustrations so we just need to take care this doesn’t spoil the holiday mood!”
