Who Are the Top 10 Celebrity Animal Lovers?
With the annual Comedy Pet Photo Awards launching on April 1st (no joke), we thought we’d take a look at celebrity animal lovers – but more than that, those who do something to protect and save animals everywhere. From Ricky Gervais and his cats to the Queen and her corgis, these are the celebrities that go the extra lap for our furry friends.

10. Brian May
The Queen guitarist made headlines in 2013 when he released a single to promote awareness of badger culling. Save the Badger, Badger, Badger, with internet entertainer Weebl, featured the vocals of Brian Blessed, and made the top 40 in the iTunes download chart. Brian Blessed, who played Prince Vultan in the 1980 film Flash Gordon, which featured a soundtrack by Queen, said: “Brian May is absolutely inspirational and together we will beat the dark forces and save the badgers.” Along with Anne Brummer, Dr. Brian May also set up the charity Save Me Trust which fights animal cruelty.

09. Charlize Theron
The accomplished actress, well-known for her parts in Aeon Flux, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Monster, grew up constantly around animals on a farm in South Africa, and is an active animal rights campaigner. She has posed for the cover of Animal Fair, spoken out in support of animal welfare issues and has talked about her love for her animal companions, including four rescue dogs, Denver, Orson, Tucker, and Delilah. Charlize Theron has also take a very strong stance on being anti-fur and has campaigned against the fur trade.
